Reason For Voice Change In The Morning Due To Low Active Thyroid?
I currently have a low active thyroid and take daily 100mg x 5 days & 125mg 2 days weekly of Thyroxin. Lately I m finding that my voice is hoarse in the morning which can be embarrassing when speaking in meetings for my work. I always feel I can talk it out but this is not happening and I have to clear my throat to speak clearly but this often doesn t work either. Can you please help and should I go to see my doctor to investigate this further? I am 56 years old and otherwise healthy apart from this and the usual ageing issues.
Hello! Thank you for asking on HCM! I read carefully your concern.
Under active thyroid may be one of the causes of the hoarse voice. Actually you are under treatment, but you didn't mention when was your last thyroid hormonal check up?
If you didn't check them lately, i would suggest first to be sure that the dose is correct and if you have checked it than a ENT specialist would be of help to examine the throat.
If you are an active smoker i suggest you to stop smoking. Hope the information will be useful and feel free to ask if you have still queries.
Kind regards, Dr.Mirjeta
