Recovering From Eye Operation. Seeing Wavy Lines From Operated Eye. Possible Cause And How To Rectify?

I have scleral buckling done on 9 April 2012 and vitrectomy for retinal detachment on 28 May 2012 on my right eye. I am recovering and my vision is 6/9 (pin-hole). But I am seeing wavy lines from the operated eye. What are the causes of the wavy lines I am seeing and will the wavy lines go off later? If not, what are the possible intervention, physically or medically, to correct this? Thank you. Eddie

Hi Eddie,
Good that you have recovered a good post operative vision.
The wavy lines you have mentioned is due to the disturbed Macula[ the central part of Retina responsible for central vision].

In the process of recovery, as any other body tissue, edema and scar formation happens in Retina too.

Macula will be initially edematous and later settles down with a thin scar/membrane [Epi Retinal Membrane, ERM],easy to cause distorted/wavy central images. This can be confirmed by doing an OCT.

An ERM can be surgically removed.

If your distorted images are not due to ERM/Macular edema, wait for another period of 3 months for your eye to heal completely and then get a repeat OCT if symptoms persist.

But get it confirmed with your Retinal Surgeon and follow up as suggested by him.
Each eye differs in their healing process and wavy lines are commonly seen in Vitreo Retinal surgeries.
So, don't worry. Get well soon :).
Hope this helps.
