Red Bumps Around Tattoo, Spreading, Itching. Allergic Reaction Or Type Of Poisoning?
Hi, I recently got a new tattoo a little over a week ago. However, about 3 days later I started getting red bumps around it. A few at first and then each day they spread out and developed more quickly and itchy. Some are larger and some are small but they are wide spread around the tattoo. Not inside it or on the tattoo just around it. I was using A&D ointment at first but stopped within 2 days because i figured it was causing the bumps but even after stopping I still gained more bumps and itchyness. Is this an allergic reaction or a type of poisoning?
Hello, You seem to be having an allergy to the tattoo pigment. The chance of allergy increases if it is a colored tattoo. Zinc oxide would not be enough, you might require topical steroids and sometimes according to severity even a short course of oral steroids. I recommend you to consult a dermatologist for initiation of treatment. In some cases allergy subsides after few days, but in some it will continue till you remove the tattoo. This can be done by lasers. Your dermatologist will follow you up and decide. Hope this helped Take care
