Red Swollen Gums, Pain Swallowing, Cant Open Jaw
Red swollen guns around my wisdom teeth , pain when swallowing , jaw is hard to open and close. I have been using salt water for 3 days. It s very painful and It s gotten so bad that I can t sleep.

hi , this condition is labelled as pericoronitis, this is mostly due to insufficient space in the jaw bone for the last erupted tooth. surgical extraction is needed if the tooth is impacted, and operculectomy is the process for removal of gums margins from the tooth to minimize the pain . take antibiotic, flagyl,and NSAID FOR 5 DAYS . and consult a maxilla-facial surgeon for its proper management. regards,

there may be pericoronitis be present in that area........
because of all that you are having pain with swelling and not able to open the jaw.........
i want to let you know that wisdom teeth are vestigial organ, so you go for extraction........
so please go to an oral surgeon and follow the otstructions given and go for the proper treatment.......
nothing to get worried......

Hello and welcome to hcm forum,
Have you got your wisdom tooth erupted or is it still impacted?
If the gums are swollen around the erupted teeth,deep scaling and root planning has to be done.
If the swelling is at the region of impacted tooth,get the flap overlying tooth removed to fasten tooth eruption.This is done if there is adequate space for tooth eruption.
If tooth is positioned irregularly,it has to be extracted.
Take complete course of antibiotics and analgesics.
Warm saline and betadine gargle can be done.
Maintain good oral hygiene.

Your having pericoronitis which occur due food lodgment arround wisdom tooth , as aresult which gums get swollen and painful, you can also have fever and difficulty in mouth opening.
I suggest you to maintain good oral hygiene , take tab amoxclav 625 mg bd , tab dolomol tds , gargle with warm saline water 3 to 4 times a day.Consult your dentist he will do the x ray and check the exact position of tooth.

I would advise you to get your erupting wisdom teeth evaluated by your dentist with the help of x ray.
so that you will know, how much space is available in the jaw for its eruption.
Based upon x ray findings ,you can decide and if required get the tooth extracted,as it gives recurrent infections.
Meanwhile you can talk to your dentist and start antibiotics and analgesics for immediate help.

Wisdom tooth is the last tooth to erupt in the oral cavity and often its eruption is associated with symptoms like pain and discomfort in eating , difficulty in opening mouth , swelling in the jaws and cheek bite.
wisdom teeth are often tilted in position and impacted in the bone , gums overlying the tooth usually undergoes inflammation known as pericoronitis .
The tilted position of the tooth leads to entrapment of the cheek mucosa in between the teeth during biting.
i would suggest you to go for symptomatic treatment at home like gargling with lukewarm saline water or antiseptic mouthwash like chlorhexidine or betadine.
You may need to get an OPG radiograph done for you which will show the exact position of the tooth, consult a dentist and get the tooth extracted surgically.

Go for antibiotic medicine and anti inflammatory medicines for 3-5 days.
If there is pus formation then get it removed.
