Removed Thyroid Completely. Worried About Hair Loss And Weight Gain. Help?

I had a complete thyroid removed in two parts. The first was in December 2012 and the second part of the surgery on April 2013. It was dure to the goiter being so large that the left side was removed first until I regained activity in my vocal cords. Now that the surgery is complete (no cancer!!!!) I am afraid of the weight gain and hair loss. Mine throid was hyperplasm (SP). Exactly what does that mean and what should I be looking forward to. By the way, I am 58 years old and has always battled with weight. I am 5'5" and wt 218.

Hello,

You have undergone total thyroidectomy. So you should be not thyroxin hormone replacement therapy for life.
This will take care of your weight gain and hair loss.
By this way you can manage surgically induced hypothyroidism.

Hyperplasia is a precursor to all type of cancer.
This means there is a change in the type of the cell and faster multiplication of the cell also occurs.

This stage is not cancer. So no need to worry.
