Reoccurring Cold, Fever, Night Sweats, Sore Throat. Had Sore On Head Of Penis. Blood Test, X-ray, Echo Normal. Syphilis?

I am a 37 year old male. About 5 1/2 years ago I noticed a small sore on the head of my penis. I assumed it was from frequent masterbation and after a few weeks the sore went away. Recently I was reading online about syphilis and read that the disease has different stages, some taking years to develop, and that I may have possibly ignored the 1st stage. I also have been having trouble with common illnesses (cold, fever, night sweats, sore throat) recently as I have been sick 5 times already in 2013. I get my blood tests annually and all my results are always regular. (RBC, HGB, HCT, WBC...etc..etc.) The Doctors even comment about how great my results are. The same story with my x-rays and echo cardiographs. My questions are...would these blood tests be able to indicate a later stage of syphilis? and Why am I struggling with so many small illnesses if my blood test results are always showing me to be in the normal range?

Hi there ~

I understand your concerns. However, you should visit and consult a doctor to find out if you are having syphilis. It is done by a simple blood test and you will also be able to find out if you have any other STDs by running a screening profile on the same blood sample. I also believe that you might need to tell your physician about the fever night sweats and sore throat since it could be an infection that needs attention.
