Seven Weeks Pregnant, Ultrasound Shows Six Weeks Pregnancy, Less Heart Rate. No Pregnancy Symptoms. Miscarriage Is Imminent?

I am a little over 7 weeks pregnant with my second child. Ultrasound yesterday showed me measuring barely 6 weeks and heart rate just 80bpm. I am sure of the dates because I write everything down (period dates etc.) I have no pregnancy symptoms except for a persistent, dull pain in my lower back. My doctor wants me to wait 2 weeks before going back in to check for viability. Does this sound like a miscarriage is imminent?

Hi,
You are counting the pregnancy according to menstrual date. But actually, conception starts at ovulation,at the moment when male & female gamets unite.
Ovulation is 14 days prior to expected date of next period. So the embryonic age is lesser by at least 14 days ,than menstrual calculation.
In that view, the size of pregnancy is not less.I would agree with your doctor in saying, wait for 15 days & scan there after will give you exact picture of viability.
Till then, be tension free & happy.Eat light, nourishing food, take medicines prescribed( specially the folic acid),Take care.
Thank you.
