Severe Chills Followed By Sweating, Excessive Body Heat, Regular Periods. Symptoms Of Menopause?

I m a 49 year old woman and I keep getting really cold like I m freezing and then 5 to 10 minutes later I break out in a sweat and feel so hot and start taking off any extra clothing and then 5 to 10 minutes later it starts all over again. This goes on all day long and night. Is this just menopause? My periods are still pretty regular as of now. Help please???

Hello
Thanks for writing to us.
What you have described fits into the typical description of ' hot flushes '.
It is a signature symptom of peri menopause.
Sometimes, period changes might not occur, and some other symptoms might appear before menstrual irregularities set in.
There is one objective way of confirming whether this is indeed the case.
Please have estimation of the hormones - FSH, LH, serum estradiol.
This will conclusively establish if menopause is setting in.
In case these hormones are in the normal range, other rare causes for this symptom can be looked into.
Take care.
