Allergist and Immunologist 's  Response
Hello,
Most of these 'bad cold's are viral infections and children are more prone to viral-induced wheeze. If she is coughing at night with runny nose but sputum has changed colour, then there is a super-added bacterial infection for which antibiotics will help.
You can indeed give both symbicort and clarithromycin at the same time, but try and space them out by a few hours.
Only theophylline group of drugs have an interaction with macrolide antibiotics; such as azithromycin and theophylline when plasma concentrations of theophylline goes up; and clarithromycin inhibits metabolism of theophylline.
This is not the case here, so there is no need to worry.
Thanks.
