Severe Cough, Chest Tightness, Hearing Wheezing Sound, Mucus Coming On Coughing. Possible Cause?

I have had a couch for four to five months now. It is worse late in the evening through the night, and early morning. The longer I cough, the tighter my chest feels and the I can hear and feel myself wheezing. In some cases I am able to cough something up, but sometimes it is just continually coughing over and over. In the instances where I am able to cough something, the substance is anywhere from clear runny mucus, a clear solid jelly like substance, or a yellow/green gritty like solid mucus. I have no other symptoms but these. I am trying to determine that cause so that I can finally have peace altogether. I have been able to use some old inhalers, which alleviates the cough and wheezing, but on the worst days I am having to use it five to six times. I am now at the end of the inhalers and suffering through the coughing spells.

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello dear,

Wheezing is caused due to broncho-constriction (obstruction of smaller airway passages) which is indicative of Hyper-responsiveness of air passages (seasonal allergy or asthma)

Management consists of:

1. Asthalin inhaler- provide symptomatic relief by causing broncho-dilation (dilating the smaller airway passages, relieving the obstruction & increasing airflow to lungs)
So, you can use it whenever you are having an acute attack.
2. Montelukast preparations- used as a maintenance therapy to relieve symptoms of seasonal allergies & asthma.
3. Antihistamines & anti tussive preparations can also be used to provide symptomatic relief.
4. Protect yourself from exposure to cold, dust or other allergens.

If symptoms still persist, it will be better to consult a Pulmonologist & get a proper physical examination done.
So that appropriate management steps could be taken.
Investigation like X ray of the chest & pulmonary function test will be helpful in clinching the diagnosis.

Wishing you a good health.
Take care.
