Severe Headache, Feels Like Tightening In Forehead, Blood Work Normal. Reason ?
My 14 year old daughter has had a severe headache for over a week now. She has not been able to cope with school. she was assessed in the Childrens Acute Assessment unit at the local hospital they assessed her and took blood tests which showed nothing. They prescribed her codeine, panadol and ibprofen to take together which she is taking, but these do not last the distance and after a couple of hours she is asking for more pain relief. The pain is in the forehead and feels like tightening and occasional it feels like her head is going to explode. She has had no loss of vision or seeing of stars etc. Help, she has had enough and I don't know how much longer she can cope with this continual pain.
Hi, Based on the details cause of headache has to be ruled out by clinical examination ( neurological examination, Fundus examination, eye check up for refractory error) and requires CT scan brain to rule out any structural lesion and EEG to rule out seizure.
There are many causes of headache at this age which includes migraine headache, headache due to refractory error, headache due to structural lesion like granulomas brain , and can be a type of seizure ( fits without loss of consciousness)
She should be shown to neurologist for same and paln for further management
