Severe Itching And Swelling In Wrists, Ankles. Taking Benadryl Provides Relief. Medical Attention Needed?

My daughter s wrist are itching her like crazy, she said that it started yesterday afternoon. She woke up quite disturbed by the itching, she took a shower and then starting itching on her ankles. I gave her a benadryl which made her ankles better, but the wrists are the same with a little pain and swelling in the left wrist. I think I should take her to the ER?

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi,
It seems that she might have some allergy, either due to some insect bite or some chemical allergen came in contact with feet and hands.
Continue with Benadryl or Cetrizine tablet as and when required.
If there is no improvement then go to ER and get examined.
Ok and take care.

You might try some Caladryl for topical itching. Has she been around poison ivy or do you have animals with fleas? Does it seem to get worse over time? If it gets worse consider calling a pediatric doctor if possible. The ER may be the next thing to do.
