Hello and welcome to HCM,
Low levels of vitamin D are associated with low calcium and phosphorus levels.
Calcium and phosphorus are minerals responsible for maintaining strength of the bones.
Deficiency of these minerals weaken the bones and can cause spontaneous
fractures or fractures due to minor trauma.
Vitamin D replacement is required to maintain the calcium and phosphorus levels in the body to maintain bone strength.
However, the cause for low vitamin levels needs to be figured out.
Vitamin D needs to be converted into its active form by
liver and
kidney.
Any abnormality / disease of liver or kidney will lead to vitamin D deficiency even if the intake is normal.
Consult your physician for clinical examination and relevant investigations.
The liver function tests and renal function tests also need to be done to see the status of these two organs.
Thanks and take care
