Severe Roaring Sound In The Ear. Could It Be Related To The Blood Flow?

Hello I need help.My right ear has a roaring sound in it 24/7 it is driveing me nuts .I have seen many Doctors and they say that it is the blood rushing by my ear.And there is nothing that can be done and they say to me deal with it.east for them to say.I cant stand it no more it sounds like my pulse .And the sound is so loud that i cant concentrate. But if I put my fingers below my ear it quits and my ear is sound. But when i remove the fingers it goes on and on and on.Can someone tell me what is going on.I went to a vascular sergeon and he said my arterys are fine so i dont think it is the blood flow .

ENT Specialist 's  Response
hello and welcome to HCM,

You are suffering from tinnitus and since the sound gets reduced when you press below the ear it is an vascular tinnitus. But since your vascular surgeon has mentioned the arteries are fine then let us go over a few points:
1. Get a full ENT examination including the state of the drum and get an audiometry testing done to assess the hearing
2. Get a CT of the temporal bone to rule out any other common cause of tinnitus
3. Get a full blood profiling including cholesterol level estimation to rule out atherosclerosis of the blood vessels.
4. Since you have mentioned that the vascular surgeon said that the arteries are fine then I am assuming that you have done an angiographic study of your carotids. If not I would definitely advice you to do the same.
5. If all the tests are normal then you have diagnosis of essential tinnitus. If thats the case then there is a new drug called the TINNICAR which is a prostaglandin analogue and is available in both tablet and injectable forms. I have been having a fair degree of success in relief of tinnitus by using this drug. Ask your ENT about the same
6. Learn some relaxation technique like the yoga which can reduce the stress you are having because of the sound and may even reduce the sound
7. If you have hearing loss then hearing aids can help you in hearing and as well as reduce the sound
8. While sleeping when the sound is the most then concentrate on other sound like the fan, radio or a big clock
take care and do not concentrate on the sound much, i know its easier said than done but its in your hands completely.

it is tinnitus as thee is blockage of sound waves in conductivity
