Shall I Increase The Dosage Of Thyroxine During Pregnancy?

Hi, I am 23 weeks pregnant and on thyroxine for hypothyrodism. My levels were checked early in the pregnancy and the obstetrician said they were good and the dosage was fine. I am now reading that thyroxine should be increased with all pregnancies and am getting very worried that there may be something wrong with my baby.

Hello,
Congratulations for your pregnancy!
I can understand your concern. Normally once you have a positive test of pregnancy you should raise the dose of levothyroxine by 25% and check the TSH level after 4 weeks. This is done to prevent a slightly underactive thyroid.
In your case there is no need to worry, because you have checked the hormonal level and has resulted within the normal ranges with the dose you have been during the last months.
Enjoy your pregnancy and do not worry!

Best wishes,
Dr.Mirjeta
