Shortness Of Breath While Walking After Valve Replacement Surgery. Does This Need Consultation ?
we are on a trip. my husband had a valve replaced 2 yrs ago. he has a shortness of breath when walking just as he did before surgery. we have 7 days to go. he can stay in the hotel and is riding on a bus so i can limit his exertion. what i want to know is, i don't want to panic anyone on the trip..can i keep him this way until we get home to see the heart doctor. i can call in advance for an appointment along the way. thanks you
Shortness of breath on effort is typical of left heart failure. That could mean several things – like malfunctioning valve, obstruction or leak, associated Coronary Artery Disease and so on. He needs to be examined and investigated. You have not stated his personal habits, co-morbidities, even age It is better to see his cardiologist, as soon as possible...it is not safe or wise to wait.
did he have same breathlessness before trip ? if it started recently then it needs attention. Breathlessness can be because of many things and not possible to assess without examing patient and certain investigation, so i suggest you to see a cardiologist asap. health is more important and you can always have another trip!
