Should Amoxicillin Be Taken Along With Flucloxacillin For Dry Socket In Gums?

I have recently had two teeth extracted and have developed a dry socket. I had a full course of flucloxacillin at home from a previous illness which i never used, so I started taking them. The pain got worse so I went back to my Dentist and she prescribed amoxicillin. (Ididnt tell her I was already taking a course). Could I and should I take both ? Thanks

Hi..
Welcome to HEALTHCARE MAGIC..

I have gone through your query and can understand your concerns..

As per your complain in case if you have developed a dry socket that is formed when the blood clot that is responsible for healing of the extraction socket gets dislodged leading to unhealed and inflamed socket..
It is not healed along with antibiotics and a dressing of Zinc oxide Eugenol needs to be placed in the socket after irrigation with antiseptic solution to initiate healing..
Therefore in case if you are not given the dressing, you need to consult an Oral Surgeon and get evaluated and he can start giving dressings to heal the socket..
Other thing is that if you are taking antibiotic Amoxicillin that is a broad spectrum antibiotic, you do not need to take Flucloxacillin as it is narrow spectrum and acts on limited strains of bacteria..
Therefore continue with only Amoxicillin..
You can also take anti inflammatory painkiller like Ibuprofen to relieve pain..
Maintain a good oral hygiene and take a soft diet..

Hope this information helps..

Thanks and regards.
