Should Glizid Be Discontinued With Improved Blood Sugar Levels?

Hi..this is for my mom in law! She is using 80 mg of Glizid m and she generally takes 1- morning and 1/2- afternoon and 1/2 - night. But since her blood sugar levels have been improving these days...she stopped taking the medication at night and started using just 1/2 - morning and 1/2 - afternoon. Now we see that her blood sugar levels at fasting in the morning are no less than 125, 127, etc and in the afternoon. two hours after meal it is 180 which we think is kind of high. Do you think its because of avoiding the medication at night or should she take 1 full medicine in the morning. Thanks!

Diabetologist 's  Response
Dear sir i can understand your concerns.
I am sorry to hear you have been having difficulties getting your blood sugar in the normal range now. I am very happy you are this conscientious because having a well controlled blood sugar is very important in preventing the onset of diabetic complications.
in my opinion you need to understand your medication in diabetes.
the medication what you are using is called as sulphonylurea drug
this medication stimulates pancreas and extract insulin so in due course of time pancreas will completely lose its potential to give insulin,
so its advisable to reduce use of such medication and depend on medications like metformin and dpp 4 inhibitors.
my suggestion is to reschedule the medication and substitute them with medication
please discuss with treating doctor for dosage information.
Hope I was able to help you.
If you have any further question feel free to write me back. I will be happy to help.
Take care.
Best Regards.
