Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
Should HH Be Done Twice After Breast Reduction Surgery?
I had surgery (breast reduction), with reported 300-500cc blood loss. During surgery multi HH were drawn. H/H was 5 and 17 in the PACU.BPS low as 72/52. Nurses wanted transfusion, MD did not--he did then order albumin. They called the ICU MD who ordered blood, 2 units. 4 am Hgb was 8. I felt better, stayed the night and went home next am. Now am 4 days from surgery. Still weak, no fever. Follow up today---should repeat HH be done??
As there is history of 2 blood transfusions following breast reduction surgery loss to compensate the anemia condition, and currently there is weakness without fever (inflammation ruled out), I would recommend a complete hemogram with hemoglobin level and total white cell counts for the precise management guidelines.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards,
Dr. Bhagyesh V. Patel, General Surgeon
