Should I Be Checked For Hanta Virus After Eating Snacks From The Bag Touched By Mice?
There are mice in our work area. I had some food in my locker in a plactic bag and in a box. I found a mouse in my locker and discoverd that the bag I had some snacks in had a small hole eaten in it by the mouse ( field mouse I think). I had eaten some of the snack before I discovered the hole, should I be checked for the hanta virus?
Thanks for contacting HCM with your medical question
You are concerned about possible Hanta Virus after eating or being around mice. The most common type of mouse that may transmit Hanta are not the common field mice but mice that live in isolated areas or in wilderness areas. If your work environment is out in the woods in an area where Hanta has been found then I recommend you see a physician and have them monitor you for the virus. Most cases of Hanta are from the desert South West.
