Should I Be Concerned About The Recurring Pain Below The Rib Cage Which Radiates Into The Middle Back Which Hurts On Bending Over?

I have been having a pain just below my right rib cage and it radiates into my middle back. It hurts worse when I hunch over or lay on my left side with my body a little elevated so as to pinch the area. It started recently for the back pain but the location just below my rib has been going on since mid-september. It first started on vacation as a painful burning to the skin just to the right of my belly button. It hurt to rub fingers a cross the area at the time, but I was not sure since we were on vacation if I had just strained something. Since then the pain has still existed, but moved up to the right a little and now is getting worse. I have not been to my primary physician yet, but need to know if I should be concerned.

Hi there,

Thanks for your query.

More information is required to pinpoint the EXACT cause of your problems.

However, from the information provided, your problems are most likely due to either, inflammation of the baglike cavity surrounding the lungs; spinal problem (disc herniation); liver/gall-bladder problem; stomach acidity problem; or, catch in the right chest muscles.

You need a careful evaluation and relevant blood workup + X-ray/CT scan.

Consult your doctor and apprise him of my opinion. I am certain that he will agree with me, order required tests, and- based on the reports- will prescribe suitable/modified treatment as advised.

If you find my response helpful and informative, do not forget an “excellent” (5-star rating) to my answer, to ENCOURAGE ALL doctors- engaged in social service- to render sound advice to the FREE queries.
