Should I Be Concerned About Throbbing And Bleeding Under A Very Old Dental Cap?

Hi I’ve had capping over my front teeth from last 14 years no problems but now I can feel throbbing under the capping and bleeding when I brush the teeth with capping but no pain. Please suggest I had it done in India 14 years ago I’m now in Uk. Many thanks

Hello,

Yes, since it is almost 14 years since you had capping done, it is concerning. Get clinically examined by a dentist to help detect gingivitis or periodontitis, crown loosening or gum damage/abscess formation. Get an X-ray and required blood tests done to detect gum damage, abscess, or any other pathology that is causing you discomfort, etc. In the meantime, rinse with warm salt water to reduce inflammation and take care of your oral health. Avoid taking hard or sticky food.

Depending on the diagnosis made, your treating doctor may recommend gum treatment, crown replacement or, if needed, root canal therapy or other dental procedures. Do not to delay getting treated, as the symptoms may worsen.

I hope I have answered your question. Take care.

Regards,
Dr. Nupur K.
