Should I Concerned For An Ankle Bruising After It Was Injured?

I'm 38, 5'8" and 250 lbs. I was hit pretty hard in the side of my shin with a softball last week. There was a fair amount of pain but no immediate bruising. Over the next week, bruising started to form about 3" below where I was struck in my ankle. The bruising was still spreading as of last night but below the injury. One note, the area bruising had been operated on when I was 17 to put in 2 screws to fix a broken ankle. Should I be concerned?
