Should I Get A Tetanus Shot For Vole Bite?

I was working in the garden yesterday afternoon and a VOLE bit me on my thumb...the varmit s teeth penetrated the skin of my thumb. I expressed blood from the two little puncture holes, rinsed and cleaned the area. Do I need to do anything other than ensure my tetanus shots are current?

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi and thanks for this query.

Besides making sure your shots are up to date, you need to monitor for any signs of infection. I you hand becomes swollen, drains a liquid or becomes very painful, do well to consult the doctor for evaluation and management of a possible infection.

I hope this helps. I wish you well. Feel free to ask for more information and clarification if need be. Thanks for using our services.
