Should I Go To The ER For Severe Sore Throat Pain And Inflamed Tonsils That Make Eating, Drinking, And Sleeping Difficult?
I m dealing with the worst sore throat I ve ever had. Sharp, stabbing pains. I m struggling to eat, drink, and sleep due to the pain/discomfort. It s constant and seems to be getting worse. Also, I think my tonsils are so inflamed they re rubbing against my throat when I swallow. Does this warrant a trip to the ER?
Take sips of water and fluids throughout the day. Be well hydrated. Stay at rest. You can keep cough lozenges in your mouth so that your throat feels comfortable. Take liquid food like soup, oatmeal, khichri, etc. To get a better sleep, take antihistamine at bedtime. It will help you get rid of allergic symptoms that are adding on to your discomfort.
However, you are advised to get clinically examined by an ENT, get blood and all other tests done to detect the condition of your tonsils. You will be given conservative treatment. Treatment with antibiotics, anti-inflammatory medicines, vitamins, etc. or recommended surgery if your tonsils are in bad condition.
Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
