Should I Monitor Symptoms After A 10-day Doxycycline Course For Gonorrhea And Chlamydia?
Hi, I had tested false negative for gonorrhea & chlamydia, but having symptoms related to it. So I requested for ceftriaxone IM done and on the course doxycycline 6th day and have 5 more to complete. I had observed the burning symptoms had been reduced compared to earlier intense burning and pain around groin. I have to do the re-test after a week and am not sure if the results test would come false negative again. Shall I monitor the symptoms after the course?
Yes, you should monitor your symptoms and get retested post-treatment. Complete the course of doxycycline. 1-2 weeks post-treatment, get tested, but to prevent false negatives, avoid improper sample collection. Also, avoid getting tested too early. False negatives may occur due to low bacterial load at the time of the test. Make sure you complete the treatment so that symptoms don't resurface again. In case symptoms appear, get clinically examined by a GP; you may need to be further evaluated.
I hope I have answered your question. Take care.
