Should I Stop Codeine And Use Morphine Patch For Pain Due To Pleurisy And Fluid In Lungs ?

I've had fluid on my lung for a month and was taking Amoxicillin 500, but now have pleurisy too and my GP gave me Clarithomycin 500 yesterday. An hour after taking it I fainted (but had also taken a codeine for the pain). Should I stop the antibiotics or codeine please? Would a morphine patch (back pain type) where I have the pain do the same job?

Hi,

Sorry to hear about your problem. It would be advisable to continue Clarithromycin and to try other analgesics. While there is a probability that Clarithromycin can lead to increased levels of codeine , it is very rare.

You should consult your doctor again to assess the probability of this reaction
