Should I Take Finasteride For Prostate Enlargement With Nodule As Shown On US?

I had prostate enlargement grade 2 with nodule last December, 2010 and I was biopsy. It was found out as non-cancerous. My PSA is normal. My ultrasound result was 37 grams. I was given a medicine ( Finasteride). After 6 months, another PSA and ultrasound. My PSA result is normal again. My ultrasound again was 28 grams no nodule found anymore. I was given a medicine/herbal medicine (Saw Palmetto) Another ultrasound and PSA after 6 months, no nodule found 35 grams and PSA was normal. My kidney was slightly affected. I was given a Tamplusin with finasteride. I was again for another 6 months. Please reply. Thank you so much.

Hi,
Thanks for writing in.

Finasteride is a 5 alpha reductase inhibitor. Finasteride may improve the symptoms associated with BPH such as difficulty urinating, getting up during the night to urinate, hesitation at the start of urination, and decreased urinary flow. If your symptoms are under control then please continue the medication under supervision of an urologist.
