Diabetologist 's  Response
It is advisable to start tablets like metformin combined with Diet and exercise. In a newly diagnosed patient like you we do not want any diabetes related complications so we start off tablets to control the currently high sugars and as your diet and exercise starts to pay off we tend to reduce the dose of medications and allow the patient to be on diet and exercise alone. This method has given me good results and many of my patients are managing well with diet and exercise itself.
