Should Misoprostol Be Continued After Bleeding Occurs?
Hi, I m 6 weeks pregnant. I took 800mcg of Misoprostol vaginally. 5 hours later I took another 800mcg of Misoprostol vaginally. After the second dose I felt chills, cervix pulsating, and a warmth in my vagina. But now it is has been 7.5 hours since the first dose and so far there has been no bleeding and hardly any uterine discomfort. I m wondering when the bleeding normally begins and should I continue taking 800mcg every 4 hours until the 28 pills are completed?
Hello dear Understand your concern. Better and safe practice is to use medical abortion pill under expert opinion and supervision of gynecologist. Never try dose modification by self at it cause dangerous complication like severe abdominal cramp, excessive bleeding, ectopic pregnancy and abnormal development of pregnancy if failure case. Dose of misoprostol for intrauterine pregnancy up to 9 week is 800 mcg vaginally every 6 hourly maximum up to three dose. Dose and schedule should be modified by gynecologist. Bleeding depends on the dose and week of pregnancy. Normally process of abortion is completed in 2-3 days. If bleeding is started there is no need of extra dose. But close follow up is required. USG must be done to confirm the complete process of abortion, post abortion residue and any complication of abortion. Proper rest with healthy diet and analgesic, safe sex practice in future is advised to avoid unwanted pregnancy. Hope this may help you Best regards Dr. Sagar
