Should Plavix And Xarelto Be Taken For Blocked Right Coronary Artery?
Hello, My cardiologist has prescribed Plavix and Xarelto for my heart condition which is a blocked right coronary artery. My insurance will not approve Xarelto . Is it really necessary to take both as I am not experiencing any chest pains ....just fatigue? I am supposed to have a bypass done sometime after March 15.
1. Plavix (Clopidogrel) is an antiplatelet drug commonly used to prevent heart attacks and strokes in persons with heart disease (thrombosis), recent stroke, or blood circulation disease (peripheral vascular disease).
If taken along with Plavix, Xarelto may increase the risk of bleeding, including severe and sometimes fatal hemorrhage resulting in red or black stools; coughing up or vomiting fresh or dried blood that looks like coffee grounds; severe headache; and weakness. So, in my opinion, you may continue to take Plavix alone till you get a bypass done after March 15.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards, Dr. Mohammed Taher Ali

Should Plavix And Xarelto Be Taken For Blocked Right Coronary Artery?
Hello, It s not safe to take these medications together. 1. Plavix (Clopidogrel) is an antiplatelet drug commonly used to prevent heart attacks and strokes in persons with heart disease (thrombosis), recent stroke, or blood circulation disease (peripheral vascular disease). 2. Xarelto (Rivaroxaban) is an anticoagulant mainly used to prevent or treat a type of blood clot called deep vein thrombosis which can lead to blood clots in the lungs (pulmonary embolism).
