Should Pradaxa Be Discontinued Before Colonoscopy?

If you have a colonoscopy do you have to stop taking Pradaxa? I am afraid to get off of it due to a-fib. I had a stroke in 2016 and I am fully recovered. A wonderful doctor went through my groin and into my head and removed the clot. I was not on a blood thinner at the time of the stroke. I wasn t even aware I had a-fib at the time. I am afraid to get off of the blood thinner for a routine colonoscopy. Any advice?

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello,

Usually before any procedures it is advisable to discontinue blood thinner drugs for about 7 to 10 days before the procedure.

But in few center they are also doing procedures without discontinuing the drugs with some precautions so it is advisable to inform your colonoscopist about all your drug history and allergic history to drugs.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
