Hi ,I am 32 years old Male My Total Cholesterol a year back was about 202, LDL 127, HDL 36, Triglycerides 170, Dr Advised me to start STORFIB, After continuing it for six months i stopped it and did mt cholesterol test again , but it shot upto 220 Total, LDL 162, Triglycerides 132. Please advice if I have to start taking teh tablets again or siet and exercise will be sufficient
Hello. Thank you for asking on HCM. I understand your concern.
A cholesterol level of 220 mg/dL is a borderline level. However, a LDL-cholesterol level of 162 mg/dL is high. Additionally, you are 32 years old. Storfib (fenofibrat) is a drug that has a more striking effect on triglycerides, rather than on cholesterol. At this time and point, I would recommend you to start on a fibre-rich diet (green leafy vegetables and fruit), low salt and 60 minutes of physical activity a day (walking, gym or swimming pool). After three months, you should measure your cholesterol levels again. If higher, then I can recommend starting treatment with a cholesterol-lowering drug (statin).
I hope I was helpful. Take care
