Should Susten Be Taken During Pregnancy To Prevent Miscarriage?
greetings Dr
my age 34, i had a medical history of losing 2 pregnancies 1-premeture delivery at 8th month- baby survived 4days only; 2nd (twins) miscarriage at 10 weeks ; 3rd full-term, blessed health baby ; 4th now pregnancy conceived (6w,4d ). most recent 2 days before consulted a doctor for cause of little vaginal blood bleeding (only once, it occurs in last pregnancy too), and had a scan,
FHR 115, remains normal, doctor prescribed Susten 200mg, and folic acid.
I afraid, and approached my previous pregnancy doctor for second opinion they advised Folic A, Ecospirin 75, and alpha dopa for B P (130/100) the same i used in the last pregnancy (my parents had a history of Diabetes and Blood Pl)
My questions are ; 1) which doctor should i follow ?
2) is susten 200mg advisable now ? - since i had regular menstrual cycle, I used susten 200 in first 2 pregnancies - resulted ended negative.
3) what 's u r advise if FHR 115 ( at 6w1d ), can we expect healthy pregnancy throught the full term !

susten is natural micronised progesterone which is given regularly for patients with bleeding in pregnancy.progesterone is naturally produced by the ovary during normal pregnancy.
some women who have decreased production of same have Bleeding or miscarriage. Please remember that miscarriage can also occur due to poor quality embryo (baby) where susten can't help.
In the present pregnancy as there is a positive fetal heart and bleeding I would definitely recommend susten 200 mg twice a day to any patient who comes to my clinic with similar complaints.
IF hypertension in pregnancy then I would recommend methyldopa to my patient.
Predicting outcomes of any pregnancy is difficult but let's hope for best as you had a successful outcome last time.
