Should A Purplish Swollen Area In Foot Be Of Concern In A Diabetic Patient?

My mother in law is being treated from a diabetic ulcer on both feet. On her right between the toes and top of foot it is swollen and a purplish color. Her Dr. put her on antibiotics and she's been keeping her legs elevated. She's been keeping the wound clean and bandaged.

Diabetes ulcer in the foot is a serious problem. Prompt treatment is needed to prevent cellulitis and gangrene and loss of part or full of the limb. Your doctor correctly advised to have antibiotics, limb elevation and local care. Alongwith this, your sugar level should be kept well-controlled. Good oral hydration is also necessary. The purplish swollen area suggests local congestion. In case the limb becomes very numb or congested, evaluation to rule out DVT is necessary. A vitamin supplement like neurobion forte once daily orally may be added to prevent neuropathy.
