Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
Should Endocrinologist Be Consulted For Severe Fatigue And Joints Pain?
I am 56 years old. I was diagnosed with mono about 5 years ago. having the same symptoms - no energy, joint pain, very tired. I went to my PCP and he ran lab. TSH was normal but he did not run a T3 or T4. WBC is 3. he placed me on a short term of estrogen and progesterone because of other issues yesterday. I have been under a lot of stress over the past three years. I am on Lexapro as well. I don t feel depressed but just tired. I am a nurse and I do not want to sound like a hypochondriac but this is just not who I am. Got any suggestions. I feel like I need to be seen by an endocrinologist.
Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service. I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.
What is the values of TSH? T3 and T4? Since when you're on contraceptives? Any history of hypertension or diabetes? Probably you may be suffering from chronic fatigue syndrome or major depressive disorder. Oral contraceptives pills itself causes mood changes and suicidal tendency. Check for hemoglobin status, liver function tests, Vitamin D level, serum calcium levels, etc. Do regular exercise and yoga, eat green leafy vegetables. Continue antidepressant medication. Please consult your physician he will examine and investigate then treat you accordingly. Take care.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
