Should I Be Concerned As I Am Having Red And Puffy Teeth Puncture Wounds Caused By Dog Bite?
My dog bit me (his foot got caught in something and he was panicked, so when I held him while removing his foot, his mouth clamped onto my wrist). I have 2 very small teeth puncture wounds, barely broke the skin. Both are now red and a bit puffy, though not painful. How should I treat them, and should I be concerned?
I can understand your concern for red and puffy teeth puncture wounds caused by dog bite.
The most important thing is whether your dog is immunized or not. If your dog is immunized then there is no need to worry. If not then should go for immediate rabies vaccination done.
If you have not gone for tetanus vaccination then the same is also necessary.
For the wound you can apply antibiotic cream such as fucidin or mupirocin and take pain killer tablets such diclofenac or paracetamol.
Do not try to even touch or pinch the area as can cause more aggravation of the problem and spread of the infection.
If it is increasing despite the treatment then meet a family physician and get a proper treatment without delay for the oral antibiotic such as ciprofloxacin or cefadroxyl 500 mg two times a day for 5 days to prevent secondary infection.
Keep you foot elevated and do not stand for long hours as it will cause swelling and more pain.
Take care.

Should I Be Concerned As I Am Having Red And Puffy Teeth Puncture Wounds Caused By Dog Bite?
Hello, Thanks for the query, Yes there is a concern. Apart from risk of rabies, There is also a risk that bacteria may get lodged at the site of bite and cause deep bacterial infections. Wash the affected area with soap and water. Apply an antibacterial cream. Keep the wound open. Take anti rabies injection. Please meet a dermatologist for exact diagnosis.
