Should I Be Worried About Fasting Blood Sugar Of 118 And Should I Start Metformin Immediately?
I was just given Metformin. My fasting blood sugar was 118 and My father was diagnosed late in life onset of diabetes. Should I be concerned? After reading warnings I am a little worried. Also, I like to have alcohol drinks once in a while during the holidays. Should I wait until after the holiday to start taking my Metformin?
Hi, thanks for your query. A fasting level of 118 comes under category of impaired glucose tolerance test. It will be better to go for both fasting and post prandial level and if available HbA1C level. So Don't start metformin without going for proper testing. Diabetes criteria is fasting more than 126. PP > 200.
Best wishes
