Should I Be Worried About The Blood From Nose After Injury?

My 2 year old son fell down the stairs. He appears to be okay but his nose was bleeding immediately after the fall. It has since stopped bleeding. I ve read that if a child has blood or mucus coming from the nose or ears I should get emergency care. Is that necessary or should I give it time?

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello dear,
What you said is true.We have to rule out head injury if there is bleeding/discharge from nose/ear after a fall.
But,if the kid is active, and no history of loss of consciousness/drowsiness/nausea/vomiting/vertigo/head ache, significant head injury is unlikely, and the bleeding is from some local injury in the nasal cavity.
But,it is better to see your doctor and get it examined so that we can be confident.
Thank you.
