Should I Be Worried As My Arm Is Swollen As A Rusty Nail Punctured My Arm?

hi, am i was taking out and old furniture, it had a rusty nail which punctured my arm. as of right now my arm feels heavy, its a bit swollen from where the nail punctured me. and i am a bit worried.....i do not remember when i last got my tetanus shot

Hi. Thanks for posting your concern at HCM

You should immediately get a tetnus shot (preferably within 72 hours of injury).

I would keep a possibility of Cellulitis here due to the infection which possibly got introduced at the time of injury.

If i was your treating doctor i would have asked you to take an oral antibiotic (penicillin group e.g Amoxycillin preferably in combination with clavulanic acid) thrice daily along with oral metronidazole 400mg thrice daily to cover the anaerobes, for a week
