Should I Consult My Doctor As I Am Having A Painful Throbbing Feeling In My Vagina And Bleeding Clots?

I'm 10 days post partum & I'm experiencing a painful throbbing pulsating feeling in my vagina. In the previous days I didn't bleed much, seems today I'm bleeding more. Started as little clots, I took a nap BC of the pain & when I got up I passed a clot about a 50 cent piece in diameter. Some odor with it & it's still red like menstrual blood....is this normal? should I call my dr?

Hi,
Bleeding should usually subside during the second week post partum; increase in bleeding with clots should be viewed with doubt as infection should be ruled out as is any bleeding disorder. You should consult your doctor and get further advice. Most often, the bleeding would be due to the involuting uterus sometimes contracting more and relief is usually obtained with styptics, rest, genital hygiene and sometimes hormones. Antibiotics may be needed if infection is suspected. Blood counts, urinalysis. bleeding and clotting times also are essential. Hope this helps.
