Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
Should I Take Progesterone For Missed Period, Hot Flashes And Insomnia?
I am a 47 year old female and I stopped having menses about 1.5 years ago and my gynecologist recommends taking progesterone10 mg 10 days out of each month.I feel like I am just going thru menopause with this having hot flashing night sweats insomnia and abscence of periods.should I or shouldn t I take the progesterone. I don t take any form of estrogen at all.
I understand your concern. Usually women experiencing menopausal symptoms like hot flashes, fatigue, vaginal dryness, painful sexual intercourse, insomnia, dry hair or loss of hair, anxiety, mood irritability, reduced libido, absent menses, osteoporsis etc experience change in hormones which needs to be treated.
Visiting your gynecologist may help decide whether to start you on hormonal replacement therapy combined or conjugated estrogen alone after a few hormonal tests.
Hope this helps, Take care Regards, Dr Vignan Rachabattuni
