Should I Take X Ray For Wrist Injury?

I was moving my sons bed and the two pieces of the wooden bedframe came apart and fell on my wrists...1 board per wrist. I put ice on them right away but there is a lump forming (worse on the right) on each wrist. My wrists feel "tired" but my fingers still move and I can type, although its an effort. This was about 2 hours ago. Wait time at the emerg is 10-11 hours - do i really need an x-ray? or is this likely just soft tissue damage?

Hi,
Thanks for writing in.

You have done the right thing by applying ice. If there is intolerable pain and restriction of movement then you might need X rays. You may continue to apply ice and watch for the swelling to come down. Bust since you can type without much discomfort, it is unlikely to be a fracture.
