Dear doctor I had protected sex with sex worker, 5 days back but from the same day I had mild fever for next two days , cough and swelling in eyes and lot of discharges coming out from eyes. I took medicine from physician he told me normal viral attack. after taking three days medicine No temperature, swelling in eyes is less but in morning discharges from eyes are same and cough in throat is painful. Now I suspect, should I go for Elisa (HIV) test. what are the locations in Bangalore where I can get test free . is the post result information will maintain privacy.

Hope the barrier contraceptive was intact, perhaps u should check on the health status of the sex-worker.
It can take as little as 2 weeks or as long as 6 months from the time you become infected with HIV for the antibodies to be detected in your blood. This is commonly called the "window period," or seroconversion period. During the window period, you are contagious and can spread the virus to others. If you think you have been infected with HIV but you test negative for it, you should be tested again. Tests at 6, 12, and 24 weeks can be done to be sure you are not infected.

Thank you for query. The chances of transmission of HIV by sexual route is 1/ 200 to 1/2000 even if the partner is HIV infected. It is least as you have protected intercourse. The symptoms are non specific and can be due to viral or flu also. This may be due to kiss from the partner or you have contacted it from some other infected person.so relax and do not worry of HIV.The other symptoms are non specific and not related to HIV.Any good corporate hospitals or medical colleges or any government ICTC centres will do HIV testing. You can contact them and they will maintain confidentiality at all centres. In all government centres and colleges it is done free. But Elisa takes atleast 3-6 months after exposure to tell results accurately. You can get back for any clarifications with details.Dr Bharatesh D Basti Dermatologist and venereologist.
