Should My Mother Discontinue Taking Remeron For Depression As She Suffers From Mood Swings After Taking It?

My mother is 88 years old and is in hospital and the doctor started giving her Remeron about two weeks ago because she was depressed and crying a lot. Now she is having mood swings, especially at night and is very confused. What is wrong should she discontinue this drug?
