Should Ovary Be Removed If There Is Mid-cycle Pain And Spotting Due To Cyst?
Hello. My gal pal has a complex, multilocular cyst on her right ovary with one 6mm papillary projection, thin septa, and other elements normal, per US. CA125 is 13units. There s been some mid-cycle pain and spotting alternating in past 4 months. She has a history of ovarian cysts, is premenopausal, a mom (at 40yrs, now 47), and generally healthy and active with no female relative s below-the-belt cancers. She d prefer to monitor before unilateral salpingo-oophorectomy, with possible staging & TAH. Does she have time to monitor or is it prudent to remove the ovary ASAP?

It would be safe and consider wise if we go about a removal now, instead of waiting for it to progress and get more complicated to treat and remove later. I understand how surgery is dreaded, but unfortunately in your friends case it is inevitable, and better now than later.
