Should Smoking Marijuana Be Stopped Before A Shoulder Surgery?
Hello, I am having shoulder surgery next week Thursday, I use a marijuana vape, usually taking 4-5 hits before bed most nights. I am 19 years of age and I am in peak physical condition, I can run 6-8 miles without having to stop.I have a couple of questions... -Do I need to stop before surgery?? -Do I need to tell my doctor/anestisiaologist -Any other vital information? THANK YOU!
Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service. I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.
You have to stop the Marijuana before surgery. It will be better to tell the anaesthetist about this habit, it is because Marijuana may affect the functions of some anaesthesia drugs and if you tell the anaesthetist first, he can make some alteration in RBE drugs and dosage.
Hope I have answered your query. Wishing you good health.
Thanks.
