Should Tests Be Done For A1c As The A1c Level Has Started Rising After Taking Cholesterol And Triglycerides Meds?

about a yr. and half ago, I started seeing a pa and at that time my a1c was at 6.0 , since then my a1c has climbed each time I've gone to see him. He has put me on cholesterol and triglycerides meds , currently my a1c is at 6.6 with out meds and has stayed there the last to labs test.I'm exercising and try very hard to avoid sugars. Is there another test I should take for my a1c since it started to rise after taking the latter meds and exercising .

Diabetologist 's  Response
Hi, welcome to our site. I am Dr Saumya Mittal.

Read your query. That is a very significant question and i appreciate your problem. I will try my best to answer your query

I would suggest testing a fasting and pp blood sugar. The chances are they are high and that you need to take some medicines.

Alternatively, you can do what is known as OGTT. This is a test where you will have to do fasting blood sugar, take 75 g of glucose and then repeat sugar tests at 1 and 2 hours.

Some experts dont recommend OGTT anymore. But in my experience it is still a very good test.

Since you are on medication for them, have a repeat lipid profile tested along with TSH and Vit D, the latter 2 if not already tested.

I hope this helps you. Inform the reports mentioned above so i can be of help further. Best of luck.

I have given you the answer to the maximum considering the information provided. The results of the tests could further enhance my answer to you.

Please do understand that some details could be extracted from a detailed history and examination.

Looking forward to your return query with the details asked so that I can help you further.
