Should The Beta Blockers Be Stopped For The Heart Rate Of 62?

my husbands heart rate is 52 and he is on a beta blocker -- he does not have high bp but had bypass in 1997 -- wondering if he should stop the beta blocker -- he takes lipitor for high cholesterol -- we took the bp because he was feeling tired -- he is 66 and has an aortic aneurysm - should we be concerned right now

Hello,
For the patients with ischemic heart disease the target heart rate is 50-60 bpm, it means that when we give the patients beta blocker, we want to decrease heart rate to 50-60 bpm, which is the most favorable heart rate for such patients and decreases the probability of complications in ischemic heart disease.
Some patients don't tolerate well heart rate below 55 and have some complaints such as tiredness, in this case we reduce the dose of beta blocker.
I would advise you to monitor your husband's heart rate and see a doctor if you notice that his complaints are related to low heart rate.
