Should The Patient Be Hospitalised If Having Leg Pain Due To Blood Clot?

My 21 year old daughter is at the hospital right now with leg pain in her leg. Thru an ultrasound it has been determined there indeed is a blood clot. My question is should she be hospitalized, how dangerous is this? They are going to put her on Coumadin, how dangerous is this?

Dear User,
Thanks for using health care magic.

Development of blood clot depend on multiple factors ranging from genetic one to trauma and immobilisation.
At the same time treatment is decided with due consideration of risk involved with the blood clot and chances of it continuing if the risk factors can not be removed.
Development of blood clot could be quite dangerous as it may block some important blood vessels if dislodged from its original position. Nothing wrong in hospitalisation. It is done to know the exact cause and treat it if possible. If not possible than patient put on anti clotting medicines to prevent complication.

'Hope I have answered your query. If you have any further questions I will be happy to help".
Thanks
